Mepham History - told through 76 objects
The Smithsonian Museum created the “American Stories Exhibit” which opened in April of2012. The exhibit presents a chronology of American history designed to serve as an introductory experience to the American story. The exhibit includes: Benjamin Franklin’s Walking Stick, Dorothy’s Ruby Red Slippers, Abraham Lincoln’s Pocket watch and Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves.
Wellington C. Mepham High School was created in 1934, with its doors opening in September of 1937. Since that first day of school, thousands of students and teachers have walked these halls leaving their mark. It is easy to tell an oral story about the history of Mepham or to complete written report about influential individuals or memorable events however to tell the story in a series of objects will be more challenging.
For the project, the students working in groups made a list of 76 objects they believe best represent a piece of the story of Mepham High School. For each object, they needed to obtain a photograph and write a description of its significance.
